 The story is called Freaks of the Heartland. It takes place in 1930ish. I enjoyed the story but found the ending a little flat. This brother had saved his deformed brother from death and in the process they planned to round up the other freaks from the neighboring farms. Something in the water made this town give birth to a batch of these strange kids. The towns folks kept it a secret and kept the freaks locked up. It was never fully explained in the story but never the less a rescue mission was planned and they were loaded into a truck and made it to the city line where they all stood on a cliff and looked at the big city lights. NOW if i was to write this story this is how the dork named ricky long would have ended this story. The two normal looking kids would sneak down into the big city to discover it was filled with freaks and they lived happily ever after...... But i didn't write this story Steve Niles did Greg Ruth did an enjoyable job of illustrating this tale.

 

southern bastards

I have been focusing on artists but we know someone has to write the story. Enter Southern Bastards the name and the art make it an instant pick up and buy for me. Deep south visual with rednecks so red the whole page is in a hue of red. This is gonna be a gooder and I eagerly await the next issue to see this tale unfold. Violence, family and small town. "Give me a Miller and a slice of pecan pie."
